The Centre of Excellence for Arts and Digital Immersion (ADI) is an upcoming transdisciplinary center located within the School of Liberal Arts at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur). It is envisioned as a futuristic research hub for exploring the intersections emerging from Art and Digital Technologies. It aims to excel in creative work in Visual arts, such as painting, sculpture, Performing Arts such as Theatre, Music, Dance, and other creative art forms. As for digital immersion, ADI encourages the use of digital technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Extended Reality (ER), all of which create an alternate or enhanced environment. As for the intersections between Arts and Digital technologies, ADI would like to explore innovations, such as newer art expressions, Artificial Intelligence and Art, content development for digital gaming, comics, and animation; digital twins of art; newer critical insights in the understanding of Art; sociological analysis of newer art forms.
One of the key objectives of the School of Liberal Arts is to actively pursue, acknowledge, and appreciate excellence in creative endeavours, artistic performances, and practice-driven activities. In line with this objective, the Centre of Excellence for Arts and Digital Immersion (ADI) was inaugurated on September 19, 2022. The center aspires to become a true transdisciplinary hub, dedicated to fulfilling this vision of promoting and recognizing excellence in the arts.
The vision of the Centre of Excellence for Arts and Digital Immersion (ADI) at IIT Jodhpur is to create innovative footprints at multiple levels. In addition to cultivating a deep appreciation for aesthetics among the students. It aims to inspire and guide their creative endeavours by actively collaborating with established and emerging artists in diverse art forms, including performing arts and visual arts. Leveraging cutting-edge digital and virtual technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), ADI seeks to create an immersive environment that enhances artistic experiences.
Additionally, ADI aspires to provide a platform for faculty and students at IIT Jodhpur to engage in practice-related research and other activities. It serves as a hub for experimentation, exploration, and the application of artistic skills and knowledge within the IIT Jodhpur community. By fostering this creative ecosystem, ADI aims to nurture artistic talent, facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations, and contribute to the development of a vibrant artistic culture within the institute.
ADI Objectives:• Enable multi-disciplinary research and consultancy on various art forms. • Serve as a technology-aided platform and consortium for innovation and incubation. • Develop PG and PhD research programs within ADI's broad scope. • Foster international academic exchange and collaboration. • Explore Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics ( AVGC ) Sector with a focus on the arts. • Provide an environment to nurture artistic excellence and generate revenue for artists. • Recognize creative output using unique criteria beyond academic parameters.
